Introduction

Firstly, thank you for agreeing to help us with the shortlisting of this year's candidates. The team at Medics.Academy has kindly helped us with technical support for the shortlisting process so that we can minimise the sharing of videos and data as we did in the past.

Description of the Shortlisting Process

The shortlisting is undertaken online (here). Applicants have been asked to submit a 60-second video and an essay about themselves regarding how they meet the person specification. Blog and podcast applications will include samples of their blog/podcast. You can find the person specification at the following link:

Those videos and essays have been uploaded onto this private HLA channel on the Medics.Academy platform. Please ensure you do not share access to the application content. Do not attempt to download or copy any of the essays away from the site. Doing so will put you in breach of your agreement with The HLA and Data Protection rules.

You should have been issued with a Google Sheet and Excel copy of our standard marking grid. We would ask you to use the Google Sheets document if you can; however, as a back up, we will accept the excel version. You should score each candidate in each domain as per the grid provided.

You will be asked to score groups of candidates, which are a mix of London, Newcastle, Bristol, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Belfast and non-geographic applicants. 

You can do this task from anywhere that has an internet connection, including smart phones or tablets.

We would ask you to return your score sheets by 11:00pm BST on Monday the 3rd of May, 2021.

About the Healthcare Leadership Academy

The Healthcare Leadership Academy formed in response to demand from young clinicians and medical students to learn about leadership. Founded by Dr Johann Malawana and a team of like-minded professionals the Healthcare Leadership Academy launched on 20th December 2016. The HLA houses an exciting faculty from across the health sector and beyond. Their shared aim is to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals and develop their understanding of leadership. Too often in healthcare, leadership is confused with management. Through a combination of mentoring, Socratic discussion, and philosophical exploration, the HLA aims to inspire our scholars to change the world of healthcare, one small step at a time.
