About the Course

This course is designed by StreetDoctors specifically for healthcare trainers who are volunteering within the charity. In this course you will learn the basic principles of being trauma informed and how they apply to StreetDoctors sessions.

It is likely some of the young people you are delivering sessions to have experienced psychological trauma at some point in their lives. Knowing how you can best support them when they are with you in a session is a crucial part of being a StreetDoctors volunteer. Not only will it help you when working with young people, but it’s also transferable to your experience in clinical settings.

We have created a four-part training programme of short videos, assessed multiple choice questions and reflective practice questions to help you become trauma-informed.

The videos have been produced by Lorna Fulton, a qualified trauma psychotherapist and feature a range of individuals who openly share their experiences and expertise.

You must complete all sections however the reflective elements are not assessed, please however use the reflective space to improve your practice.

This is a compulsory training session for all healthcare trainers volunteering in StreetDoctors.

About the Organisation

StreetDoctors Charity

StreetDoctors empowers young people affected by violence by equipping them with the skills to save lives and the knowledge to make informed decisions about keeping themselves and others safe. We do this by providing training in emergency first-aid through a network of young healthcare volunteers in partnership with local communities.
